Silk Purse, Sow's Ear is an independent jewellery shop working out of a small studio in Edinburgh, Scotland. They specialise in necklaces, engraved photo lockets, zodiac inspired gifts and colourful, modern earrings using vintage materials.
They love using animals including birds, foxes, horses and dogs to create wearable jewellery with a sense of fun. We hope you like this collection!
All of the packaging is made from recycled and biodegradable materials, and each piece of handmade jewellery comes packaged in a nice recycled gift box with a handmade tag, all ready to give or keep.
Sailing Boat Necklaces
This great little necklace features a simple geometric sailing boat made from an enamelled semicircle in a various sea green colours, teamed with a little vintage brass sail, in a deep gold!
The pendant measures just over an inch in length and the necklace is designed to be worn short, just an inch or two below the collar bone.
Sailing Boat Earrings
These beautiful and unusual sailing boat earrings are made from a vintage brass triangle, teamed with an enamelled semicircle in a vibrant, sunshine yellow or aqua blue shades. The boat measures just over an inch (3cm) in length and hangs from gold plated brass earwires. These earrings measure just over one inch, and the boats are designed to hang just below the earlobe.
Turquoise Opal Earrings
These turquoise opal earrings are made of delicate aqua blue opal glass dating to the 1940s. The glass jewels have a striking crackled effect and when they catch the light they take on the most beautiful glow. They are really beautiful and unusual earrings.
These earrings are available in two length options, both identical in appearance. The earring measures a total of 35mm long, and the turquoise opal is designed to hang just an inch or less below the earlobe. The earwires and jewel settings are made from solid brass.
Jade Wave Earrings
These amazing earrings have been made by hand enamelling a geometric brass fan in opaque white, before adding a fine layer of jade green detail in a wonderful, rich shade! The green enamel swirls and varies in depth of colour from the darkest forest green to a bright, fresh jade colour. They have high quality solid brass earwires. These earrings measure a total of 40mm long, and the enamelled fan is designed to hang just an inch or less below the earlobe. Each one is handmade and no two pieces are quite the same!
Seafoam and Copper Enamel Earrings
These amazing earrings have been made by enamelling a geometric brass scallop in a pale turquoise or seafoam shade, and carefully adding two layers of real copper leaf. A clear layer of enamel is added to protect the delicate appearance of the design. They have high quality solid copper earwires which match the copper leaf perfectly. Each enamelled scallop is 2cm long (about the size of a thumbnail) and the earring wire measures 3.5cm long, and the drop is designed to hang just an inch or less below the earlobe. Each one is handmade and no two pieces are quite the same!
Oyster Shell Locket
Hidden inside this amazingly detailed golden oyster shell pendant is a little cream pearl. The pendant consists of two sides which will lie against one another when worn. A modern take on the traditional locket, with amazing detail! The oyster shell pendant measures 30mm (just over an inch across) and is made from high quality brass which has a beautiful weight. 18inch necklace.

These amazing earrings have been made by hand enamelling a geometric brass fan in opaque white, before adding a fine layer of turquoise teal detail in a wonderful, rich shade! They remind us of beautiful leaves or plants, and the turquoise enamel has an amazing hand-drawn effect, almost as though they have been scribbled on with crayon! Map Locket Silver Watercolour
This beautiful locket is silver plated, and has been carefully hand enamelled to turn the sea into a beautiful turquoise colour. The turquoise has been carefully hand enamelled, adding subtle variations in colour and tone for a unique, subtle effect. No two lockets are quite the same! This is a double sided locket, with the Eastern hemisphere on one side of the pendant and the Western hemisphere on the other.
The locket is one inch (25mm) across and there is space inside for two pictures or photographs. It has a great weight, so works very well as a longer pendant, or looks equally nice if worn short.
