These torsos are hand made by the talented Gill Oakley of Stone Hen Ceramics, so each one is original. The torso is hand formed (not moulded) in stoneware, wired to hang on a wall. The surface is either textured or glazed.
Gill is a self taught potter from South Wales, passionate about ceramics since her teens.
Influenced by nature, she specialises in surface design and texture, developing ideas using hand carved clay stamps, scalpel cuts, fabrics and natural finds. Each of her pieces is formed by hand and she uses a variety of clays for different outcomes; grogged stoneware for sculpture, and porcelain for its translucency, strength and fineness.
Over the years she has had work for sale in Liberty, and Foss Fine Arts, London, and for the past two years has exhibited at Made by Hand in Cardiff.
